BIOGRAPHY

Joey Costello is an independent American Singer-songwriter whose music is best described as heart warming "soulful chart folk."  Possessing a voice characteristic of his formative influences; Ray LaMontagne and Damien Rice, Joey also utilizes a falsetto reminiscent of Jeff Buckley that defines his sound beyond any single element. Sometimes compared to City and Colour, Joey often builds his songs around profound statements transformed into catchy hooks.

Costello has had a very busy 2018 featuring the release of his new EP The Wind Blows By as well as 5 DIY singles, including the ethereal ballad for addiction awareness with TheoTheo titled "So High We Lose Our Minds."  Joey has since been a special guest and featured on BBC Introducing's The Beat with Dean Jackson and Amazing Radio. The newly release The Wind Blows By (EP) has received critical acclaim from the likes of several U.K. music blogs and publications, including Liverpool Acoustic, York Calling, and more.

Costello has spent much of 2017 and 2018 touring. He has supported the likes of BBC Horizon Award winning artist Blair Dunlop, U.K. country Americana favorite Emma Stevens, Gaz Brookfield, and Brooke Sharkey. Costello is slated to complete his third U.K. tour with headline dates in Leicester, Nottingham, as well as festival appearances at Splendour (Nottingham) and the Tram Lines Fringe Festival (Sheffield) in July 2018.

All of this started when Joey decided to make a comeback to music in 2017 after a several year hiatus, and take an artistic sabbatical to Nottingham to collaborate with local songwriters and musicians. Little did he know he would relish the opportunity to tour and release new music in the UK. With that Joey is slated to announce a fall U.S. tour and a very special new release in 2018.

(In The Artists words) Joey Describes The Wind Blows BY

The Wind Blows By - EP is a collection of songs written from my different experiences of longing. Sometimes deeply longing for beauty or for love, for the present or the past, and finally to be free of my own demons.

But within these stories, the present continues on and we are asked to enjoy every moment, in both good and bad, light and dark, full color, right now.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

Joey certainly can get to the heart of the inner sanctum. The part of our superficial happiness that is impenetrable to everyone bar our closest confidants.” - mp3Hugger

“It's on that edge between human and something else, really original stuff “ - CHILLFILTR

"Possesses a truly enchanting vocal" – Dean Jackson – BBC Introducing, The Beat

With a calming voice much like Ray LaMontagne, alongside lyrics as pure as one of my all time favorites Michael Kiwanuka, Joey has a vocal gift that is blessed to endure.” Ginfold Music

“What is immediately apparent is the sincerity of his approach to his music." Folkling

“Joey’s not just another guy with a guitar, he has something to say and is someone to watch as his songs remind you of how fragile love and life is, and how often we cling on to the past when it’s the only love we have.” York Calling

His vocals aren’t traditionally moulded (who needs another Gary Barlow on the scene anyway?), yet, they compliment his ethereal textured style in a way that is almost unparalleled amongst other American Alternative Acoustic artists.”  ANR Factory

“A marvellous and succinct pleasure, a set of songs that get to grips with the idea of letting go all that in the end doesn’t matter when compared to your own well-being.” Liverpool Acoustic

“Wow what a stunning vocal Joey Costello has... The high notes are absolutely breath-taking. “ cmrmediablog

“The American singer-songwriter brings out the fantasy, with interesting additives, tastefully inserted, and colored.” Comeherefloyd

“His Damien Rice inspired style of soulful folk that is sure to leave a lasting influence on the city’s music scene.”  Notts Music Network
